Vehicle Description 1957 PV444 For Sale - $2950 - Columbia, MO.
I am finally letting go of my vintage Volvo - given to me by my great aunt and uncle in 1978.
I am the 3rd owner.
This was a California car prior to 1978.
This is the highly desirable PV444 with the split windshield, circular tail lights, and PV444 dash (see photos) - all of which immediately distinguish this car from a PV544.
In 1979, I bought two 1961 PV544s parts cars and salvaged the B16 motors (and attached components - basically everything under the hood), 4 speed transmissions, and drive shafts out of both cars.
To make my PV444 more drivable on American highways, I rebuilt one of the B16s and put it, along with the 4 speed transmission, in my PV444 - the dual SU carbs and 6 volt system are still intact.
I did all of the mechanical work on the car myself.
The PV444 was my daily driver from 1978-86.
I stopped driving the car and began storing it in 1986 as I was finishing grad school.
I started and drove the car infrequently between 1986 and 1993 - it has not been started since 1993, but the motor still turns over.
The odometer shows just over 40k, which is actually 140k miles.
The odometer stopped working at this mileage.
I would estimate that it should read about 150k.
Note that the actual mileage on each system varies due to the replacement of components over the years.
I have been storing the original B14 motor and transmission out of the PV444 in case I (or someone else) wanted to restore it to original specs.
The original PV444 B14 motor (and most attached components) and 3-speed transmission will be included in the price and sale of the PV444.
The motor (and most attached components), transmission, and drive shaft from the other PV544 will also be included in the price and sale of the PV444 (see photos).
Historic service manuals (see photos) along with multiple other parts and service manuals also included (see photos).
Observations on the PV444:
One rear brake drum is cracked at the hub (this crack does not impact the rolling of the car, only braking) - there is moderate rust on the car in the usual places; for example, on the bumpers, fenders, wheels, and the rear-seat footwells (see photos).
Additional photos of the interior, exterior, and under the hood are provided with this advertisement.
Loading and shipping will be exclusively the responsibility of the buyer.
