Research Ecologist

As a Research Ecologist within the Columbia Environment Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:
Conduct research on the effects of various stressors to aquatic ecosystems including those related to contaminants, abandoned mine lands, invasive species, and energy development, among others. Provides support and technical assistance to the Environmental Health and Ecosystems Mission Areas, and resource management agencies such as US Fish & Wildlife (FWS), Office of Restoration and Damage Assessment (ORDA), and US Environmental Protection Agency regarding effects and exposure contaminants on aquatic and riparian ecosystems. Leads research teams of Columbia Environment Research Center professionals, contractors, technicians and possible individuals from other Federal, State and private organizations. Publishes descriptions of research tools, methods, and results in internal journals and peer reviewed external journals and presents project plans, progress, and scientific results at conferences, scientific societies, public forums, and meetings at all levels. Work is performed in an office, laboratory, and/or in the field. The office is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of the outdoor work. Work Environment:
Field and laboratory duties may require the use of special protective gear. The incumbent is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow workers, or property with which entrusted. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Applicants must meet A below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Ecologist, all grade levels. A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours or the equivalent in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours or the equivalent in ecology, and 12 semester hours or the equivalent in physical and mathematical sciences. For GS-11:
In addition to the basic education requirement as stated above, applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-11 level:
Three full years of successfully completed progressively higher-level graduate education (54 semester hours, 81 quarter hours or the equivalent) or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in ecology, biology or other directly related field underlying ecological research if it provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position to be filled. OR one year of appropriate specialized experience that is in ecology, biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Examples of GS-9 level work may include:
graduate level education or equivalent experience in ecology, ecotoxicology, or related environmental science disciplines; participating in research in aquatic and riparian ecosystems and the effects of contaminates and other stressors on aquatic/riparian populations, communities, ecosystems, or landscapes; training, education, or equivalent work experience in quantitative/statistical analyses, including using modern methods and models, and applying these to aquatic/riparian systems; formal education and training or equivalent experience sufficient to conduct complex biological investigations addressing stressor impacts on aquatic and riparian ecosystems and communities; performing studies as part of a group; and presenting scientific information, preparing reports, and participating as a junior author in published scientific results. OR a combination of successfully completed graduate level education, as described above, that is beyond the first two years of progressive graduate study, and professional experience, as described above. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
