Edward Jones is seeking a highly skilled individual to serve as an Senior Manager for the newly created Edward Jones Ventures Innovation team. This individual will be a critical member of a small, nimble team that supports execution against the firm's strategic goals by developing and managing the inorganic strategy, pipeline, and portfolio of work (e.g., mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, venture investments, business incubations, and other strategic initiatives that have a transformative impact on the firm). Key responsibilities include the following:
What you will do
Portfolio Strategy
Lead the definition of the portfolio's strategy and guiding principles (in partnership with relevant stakeholders) to ensure optimal innovation ambition within the context of Edward Jones' strategic goals and capabilities.
Assess and identify the strategic opportunities for inorganic capabilities, products, solutions, and services to address firm strategic goals (e.g., Firm Leader priorities, Apollo 30 priorities, etc.)
Establish appropriate portfolio allocation of solutions across established growth lanes, efficient capital allocation, risk diversification, etc.
Develop portfolio health/risk strategy, measurement framework/system, and proactively realign portfolio within risk appetite.
Lead associates / analysts in the strategic execution of the pipeline and portfolio strategy
Pipeline Framework
Lead the development of strategic frameworks to evaluate pipeline ideas (including setting guardrails for business cases and financial return expectations) and analyzing recommendations to ensure firm strategy alignment
Develop input curation approach (e.g., sources, prioritization, channels, etc.), develop an efficient system / process to strategically collect pipeline inputs from internal and external sources, and synthesize a complex multitude of factors on a continuing basis
Stakeholder Engagement
Develop and execute consistent and effective stakeholder strategy to ensure innovation alignment with senior business leaders to support inorganic growth opportunities and ongoing collaboration, engagement to ensure sustained support.
Interface closely with business leaders to fully understand and support inorganic growth opportunities for Edward Jones - from idea to business case.
Build partnerships with functional capabilities to build shared accountability for successful use/integration of new capabilities, products, solutions and service.
Develop internal and external PR communication strategies to create advocacy and excitement for portfolio, and enthusiasm for continued investment
Cultivate a broad network of internal and external relationships to enhance effectiveness and influence.
Functional Excellence
Provide strategic thought leadership in developing and maturing the function in addition to an ability to execute.
Support the management of a portfolio of innovative investments and incubations throughout their lifecycle
Assist in Training/Mentoring more junior EJV Analysts. What you'll need
Education / Certification
Bachelor's degree is required with an emphasis in Accounting, Finance, or Economics preferred. Advanced Degree(s) or Certification(s) in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Analytics are preferred.
Minimum Years of Experience
10
Years general Fin Services experience, or 7
year Corporate Development, Corporate Strategy, Investment Banking, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Innovation, or Digital Product Development required.
Functional Knowledge
Advanced skills in some of the following areas: innovation management, systems thinking, planning and organizing, relationship building, collaboration, critical thinking, project management.
Strong analytical, strategic planning and execution skills to drive the continued evolution of a functional capability
Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills with the ability to provide concise, relevant market commentary and periodically explain complex EJV and corporate development terms/concepts directly to key stakeholders.
Demonstrated entrepreneurial openness and ability to explore new possibilities and to approach issues differently; a visionary; intellectually agile
People leadership a plus

The span of influence includes strategic items impacting the entire firm:
The EJV Director will be responsible to collaborate with senior firm leaders and synthesize disparate sources of information to recommend strategy and facilitate innovation portfolio management activities.
The EJV Director will be responsible to build partnership with, and advocacy and accountability of firm leaders for the use and integration of new capabilities, products, solutions and services.
The EJV Director will use rigorous, fact based, quantitative and qualitative analysis to support strategic recommendations on the most complex initiatives at the firm.
The scope of work will be broad (firm-wide) by nature and therefore span various domains across the firm.
Candidates that live within in a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office three days per week, with preference for Tuesday through Thursday. The salary range for this role is based on national data and actual pay is based on skills, experience, education, and other relevant factors for a potential new associate:
Salary: $136571 - $232541
